There’s a reason they call Bali the “Island of the Gods.” It’s such a dreamy tropical paradise that everywhere you go in Bali feels like you’ve stepped right into a postcard. From lush rice terraces to majestic temples on cliffs or floating above water, Bali offers a plethora of Instagram-worthy locations that will leave you awestruck. In this blog, we’ll explore seven of the most iconic places in Bali that promise to fill your Instagram feed with stunning aesthetics. Here you’ll also find addresses and tips for visiting each of these magical locations.
1. Bali Swing
The Bali Swing, located in the heart of Ubud, is a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty. The swings overlook the lush green terraced fields, providing the perfect opportunity for astonishing airborne photos. You can rent one of the long flowy dresses you see in all the photos once you get there, so you don’t have to worry about packing one in your suitcase. Early in the morning is the best time to capture the soft, golden sunlight filtering through the palm trees.
Tip: Arriving early allows you to get the swings to yourself so you can take your time getting the perfect shot without the extra people in the background. It also helps to avoid the long lines.

2. Tegallalang Rice Terrace
The Instagram-famous Tegallalang Rice Terrace is a mesmerizing landscape of terraced rice paddies that showcase the island’s stunning natural beauty. The iconic green rice terraces were meticulously designed to not only create a visual spectacle but also be a testament to Bali’s rich agricultural heritage.
Tip: Wear comfortable clothing, as exploring the terraces can be tricky with the uneven land. Try your best not to fall in like I did!

3. Uluwatu Temple
Sitting on top of dramatic cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean, Uluwatu Temple is a breathtaking location for both culture and photography. The temple itself is a masterpiece of Balinese architecture, and the panoramic views of the ocean are absolutely captivating. The way the waves crash against the cliffs makes for an effortless picturesque background, perfect for a memorable Instagram moment.
Tip: Wear a sarong that covers your legs when visiting the temple, and be careful of the monkeys that inhabit the area as they like to steal items from visitors and run away with them.

4. Tanah Lot
Tanah Lot, the iconic sea temple, is one of Bali’s most photographed sites. Located on a rock surrounded by the sea, it has the most spectacular views, especially at sunset. The temple’s silhouette against the orange and pink hues of the setting sun creates a spectacular photo-op. I bought a flowy yellow jumpsuit at one of the markets surrounding the temple and it helped my photos turn out impressively, with a vibrant pop of colour.
Tip: Plan to visit an hour or two before sunset, though it will likely be crowded, it’s the best place to capture the sunset in Bali.

5. Ubud Monkey Forest
Ubud Monkey Forest is perfect for nature lovers and photographers. It’s a sacred sanctuary, home to hundreds of playful long-tailed macaques. The ancient temples and moss-covered stone statues provide a mystical backdrop for every photo. It is the perfect combination of stone and greenery with sunlight pouring through the little cracks of trees. Here, you can also get up close and personal with these cheeky monkeys. Take photos of them living and playing in their natural habitat, but keep a tight grip on your phone!
Tip: Keep a safe distance from the monkeys, and avoid carrying food with you. Don’t bring any valuables you wouldn’t want to lose and be sure to donate!

6. Tegenungan Waterfall
TLC said “Don’t go chasin’ waterfalls,” and here I am to tell you the complete opposite. Tegenungan Waterfall is a stunning natural attraction that’s picture-perfect. The lush jungle surroundings and the powerful cascade of water create a serene, picturesque atmosphere. Not to mention the hanging nest photo-op that lives on many Instagram pages already. Dip in the cool, emerald-green waters or capture the moment from the viewpoint overlooking the falls, there’s no bad angle at this 25-meter-high waterfall.
Tip: This is another spot you’ll want to visit early in the morning to avoid crowds and get the best lighting for your photos.

7. Batuan Temple
Batuan Temple, or Pura Puseh Desa is a temple in the namesake village of Batuan, designed with Balinese architecture that features split gates, stone guardians, thatched shrines, and detailed stone carvings. The temple is well-known for its traditional Balinese art and paintings. This temple may not be as high on some other lists as the ones on water or mountaintops, but this is a temple not to be underestimated. The older, rustic stones provide a lot of character to this scenery.
Tip: Sarongs are required for entry and it can be hot, so be sure to wear something you can easily take off, or place the sarong over top.

8. Ulun Danu Beratan
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is located approximately 1200 meters above sea level. The mountains in the background are really what set this scene. Since it is in the North of Bali, the fresh air is crisp and misty, adding a surreal cloudy effect to the temple’s scenic mountainous backdrop. The glimmery reflective surface of the still lake surrounding the temple creates the impression that it is floating.
Tip: This is another instagram-worthy icon of travel in Bali that sees many visitors daily. Be prepared for a large crowd, especially in high season.

9. OKA Agriculture Bali
This tucked away coffee plantation is the perfect gem for instagrammable content. There is a serene photo-op with a heart-shaped frame, wooden railings and a jungle backdrop filled with greenery and palm trees. Everything about this scene is dreamy, and if you take your photos from the right angle, you’ll look like you have your head in the clouds. You can also take great photos of the coffee beans, herbs and sample teas that will come out stunningly for your feed.
Tip: Take your time exploring the grounds, there are many places to take photos beyond the obvious ones. Also, give the lewak coffee a try while you’re there, you never know if it’s your cup of tea (or coffee)!

10. Downtown Ubud
It’s a city in the middle of a jungle, what more can I say? Ubud is an arts and culture centre so there is always lots happening to set your eyes, or your lens on. The art market offers an array of vibrant colour against the predominantly green environment. The city centre is riddled with Hindu temples and shrines that you can stop and take photos at as you walk through. There are tons of steps, ponds, and old stone buildings that make for the perfect spots for an insta-pic.
Tip: Keep your phone close or your camera around your neck because you never know when will be the perfect time for a photo around the buzzing city centre.

Bonus: Balinese Floating Breakfast
Although it’s not a set destination, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to take photos at your hotel with an iconic Balinese floating breakfast. Most hotels in Bali will offer this as an add-on because it is so popular. This was one of my favourite shots from my Bali trip, and an experience that made it memorable for a lifetime. Sneak in some additional shots by the pool while you’re there and you won’t regret it!
